Green Wednesday at Yo Sushi are Back! If you like sushi and love a bargain this is the offer for you! We went down to the Arndale Manchester branch to see what all the fuss was about!
For most people, sushi is all about very un-veggie. However, sushi is far than just raw fish, offering great options for both veggies and vegans whilst also being one of the healthier ‘fast food’ options to boot!
Back by popular demand, Green Wednesday at Yo! Sushi is the perfect time to try out the full range of veggie and vegan dishes that they offer. Priced at just £2.30 a plate, the Green Wednesday menu includes 20 veggie and vegan dishes to choose from. If you someone who’s not experienced much sushi or looking for a new favourite, this is the ideal time to exploer the menu without spending too much.
On arrival, we were quickly shown to our table, where our drinks order was taken. The great news is that the beer on tap is vegan-friendly, and great tasting, Ashahi beer. We ordered two whilst we checked out the menu.
It’s that that point you’ll be introduced to the conveyer belt – the convenient (and super fast) way to eat Yo! Sushi. Taking inspiration from the Kaitenzushi (conveyer belt sushi or sushi train) restaurants of Japan, the conveyer belt winds through the entire restaurant, with no dish staying on the conveyer belt for longer than two hours. If there’s something that looks good, simply take it off the belt and enjoy. There’s nothing stopping you from tucking in right away. It brings a whole new meaning to fast food!
With over 20 dishes to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. To help, I’ve picked out my favourite dishes on the menu:
Pumpkin Katsu Curry
Probably my favourite dish of the night. Steamed rice topped with sweet Japanese pumpkin and a mild curry sauce.
Mushroom Teriyaki Burger
Yes, you read that right, a burger in a sushi restaurant – although for my money it was really a steamed bun. Shiitake mushroom with teriyaki sauce served with cucumber and red onion. I enjoyed this one enough to order it twice.
A clever take on the tofu parcel, these are topped off with avocado and salsa. Sushi purists may baulk at the idea but for me, it worked.
Perfect for those with an appetite. These noodles are served with a tangy sauce and crunchy veg.
The classic sushi dish. Avocado & vegan mayo wrapped in a nori roll. Light and yummy.
Thoughts on Yo! Sushi
My one criticism of the food itself would be that the food that was cooked fresh by the chefs for us looked far more appetising than the conveyor belt options. I’d recommend that unless you’re in a rush you’re better asking for everything personally.
Also – the labelling on both the menu and the conveyer belt dishes could be clearer. Currently, it’s hard to read on the menu what’s veggie and what is vegan, with dishes on the conveyer belt all using the same green plates. I hope this is something they improve for 2019.
Note: do check with the restaurant that you are going runs the Green Wednesday offer before you go not every branch does. For instance, the Selfridges Trafford Center branch doesn’t run it sadly ( I hope they change their mind!).
I’ve included the full terms and conditions below too:
- Offer is available every Wednesday until 2nd January 2019
- Doesn’t include drinks or take out
- All other dishes not part of the Green Wednesday promotion are charged at the usual rate.
- Offer isn’t on at every Yo! Sushi This includes – Edinburgh Airport, Gatwick North and Heathrow Terminal 2 & 3, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges London, Manchester
- Trafford & Birmingham Selfridges.
